How much does flooring installation cost in the Capital Region?
Installed pricing typically runs $6 to $12 per square foot for luxury vinyl plank, $9 to $18 for engineered wood, $12 to $25 for solid hardwood including finishing, and $14 to $30 for tile depending on format and pattern. Subfloor repair, if needed, is quoted separately so you can see it. Refinishing existing hardwood usually runs $4 to $8 per square foot.
What flooring is best for a Capital Region basement?
Luxury vinyl plank, in almost every case. It is fully waterproof, tolerates the humidity and temperature swing of a below-grade space, and will not cup or gap the way solid wood does. Tile is the other sound option. Solid hardwood should not go below grade, and engineered wood only over a properly prepared and vapour-controlled slab.
Can my existing hardwood be refinished instead of replaced?
Usually yes. Solid hardwood can typically be sanded and refinished several times across its life. We measure the remaining wear layer above the tongue and tell you honestly whether refinishing is viable. Engineered floors depend entirely on the veneer thickness, and some cannot be sanded at all.
How long does a flooring installation take?
A single room takes 1 to 3 days. A typical main floor of 800 to 1,200 square feet takes 3 to 6 days for luxury vinyl or engineered, and 6 to 10 days for solid hardwood installed and finished on site. Solid wood needs 3 to 7 days of on-site acclimation before installation, and site-finished floors need cure time before furniture returns.
Why does my floor gap in winter and tighten in summer?
Because wood moves with humidity, and the Capital Region swings widely between seasons. Some seasonal movement is normal in solid hardwood. Excessive gapping usually means the wood was not acclimated before installation, or the house humidity is uncontrolled. Engineered wood and luxury vinyl move far less, which is why we recommend them in problem spaces.
Can flooring improve energy efficiency?
Yes, though the floor covering itself does little. The gain comes from what goes underneath: insulating underlayment and a vapour barrier over slabs, crawlspaces and unheated basements, and sealing the perimeter where floor meets wall. On an unconditioned crawlspace this is one of the more cost-effective comfort upgrades available in an Upstate house.
Do you install flooring I have already bought?
Yes. We install customer-supplied flooring throughout the Capital Region. We will inspect the material and confirm quantity and lot numbers before scheduling, so shortages or colour variation between lots are caught before the crew arrives rather than halfway through the job.
